Our social concerts bring music into places where access to live performance is limited: hospitals, palliative care units, residential care centers, prisons and other environments where people are not able to enter the traditional concert hall.

Bringing music to places where it is rarely heard is not an addition to what we do. It is an essential part of our mission.

What happens when music moves beyond the places in which we usually expect to encounter it?

For The Now Collective, access to culture is not a privilege, but a fundamental part of a meaningful society. Our social concerts bring music into places where access to live performance is limited: hospitals, palliative care units, residential care centers, prisons and other environments where people are not able to enter the traditional concert hall.

These performances are not smaller or simplified versions of our public concerts. They are an integral part of our artistic practice.

Through our Twin Concert principle, selected TNC programmes exist in two interconnected forms: a public performance in a cultural venue and a social concert for a community with limited access to culture. The same musicians, the same repertoire and the same artistic commitment travel between these very different worlds, but the context changes everything.

In a hospital room, a care home or a prison, the distance between performer and listener disappears. Music becomes immediate and deeply human, it’s about being present, listening and sharing something that cannot always be expressed in words.

These experiences also travel back with us. The social concert is not a one-directional act of giving. The encounters influence the musicians and transform the way we understand and perform the music when we return to the concert stage.

This reciprocity lies at the heart of The Now Collective. We believe culture can create connections across social, physical and institutional boundaries, by creating moments in which people can meet through a shared experience of beauty, attention and human connection.
